URSH President on N1 about the strike at Varteks

Tomislav Rajković on the Varteks Strike: the First Demand is the Payment of Wages

Zagreb, May 7, 2024. Tomislav Rajković, President of the Union of Workers’ Unions of Croatia (URSH), appeared on the show N1 Studio Live with Sandra Križanec where he spoke about the strike at Varteks and workers’ rights.

Workers’ Demands

Rajković emphasized that the workers are demanding the dismissal of the entire management and state that the strike will not stop until wages are paid.
“The workers have a minimum wage. They have not received two wages, that is, only some workers received for the second month, and for March no one received a wage nor were contributions paid, which is why the strike began.” , said Rajković.

Talks with the Owners

He pointed out that talks were held with the owners of Varteks before the strike began:
“We are now expecting their call to hear what their plan is to get out of the crisis. Our first demand is the payment of wages,” he said.

Varteks as a Brand

Rajković emphasized that Varteks is a brand that has both a name and valuable workers:
“These are the highest quality suits and all textile products that can be found on the Croatian market. Smart business policies need to be implemented, quality needs to be raised, and prices considered to ensure the brand’s survival,” he stated.

Conclusion

The URSH President clearly emphasized that the first demand of the workers is the payment of overdue wages, and he sees a long-term solution in better business management and strengthening Varteks as a recognizable Croatian brand.
