Protest “for Reforms for the People” – Labor Day 2018

May 1, 2018, a protest titled “For Reforms for the People” was held in Zagreb on the occasion of the International Labor Day. The organizers were the Union of Autonomous Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH) and the Association of Croatian Trade Unions, with the main goal of sending a message to the authorities that workers deserve greater rights and a fairer society.

March from the Workers’ Home to Maksimir

Protesters gathered in front of the Workers’ Home in Zagreb and formed a march heading towards Maksimir. Along the way, the unions highlighted key demands: fair wages, better working conditions, accessible and quality education, and dignified old age for all citizens.

Demands Addressed to the Authorities

Union leaders emphasized that Croatian workers must have more secure jobs and social protection that meets the challenges of modern times. Special emphasis was placed on the need for reforms focused on people, not solely on fiscal goals and capital interests.

Participants from all over Croatia

The protest was joined by numerous workers and citizens from other parts of Croatia. They arrived organized by buses from various regions, carrying banners, national flags, and union flags. This highlighted the unity of workers from across the country and support for the common struggle for the dignity of work.

Conclusion

The protest “For Reforms for the People” was another strong message from Croatian unions that the International Labor Day should not be reduced to mere symbolism but must remain a day of active struggle for workers’ rights and social justice.
