In an interview with Z1 Television, the President of the Croatian Union of Gas Distribution and Gas Technology, Vlatko Kottnig, warned of a series of management failures at City Gasworks Zagreb Supply (GPZO) which, he says, seriously threaten the company’s future and lead to enormous financial and reputational losses.

Kottnig reminded that last year GPZO lost the tender for household gas supply, and in June this year, the tender for supplying city institutions such as schools, theaters, and museums. Particularly concerning, he emphasizes, is that the company did not even apply for the Central State Office for Public Procurement tender. According to him, this resulted in a lost opportunity to supply 300 million kilowatt-hours of gas and revenue of up to 43 million euros.

“This is irresponsible business conduct. The management fell asleep and squandered the opportunity, resulting in both financial and reputational damage. The company has been marginalized,” Kottnig warned.

He described the current leadership as a “clan of eight people” who run the company “as if it were their tavern,” despite significant losses. He recalled that the Zagreb Holding report recorded a loss of about 50 million euros, while the number of users continues to decline—from the former 400,000 to a significantly smaller base.

According to Kottnig, this trend means that GPZO will struggle to survive in the market: “When you fall from the position of a major supplier, you can no longer get competitive gas prices, and losing tenders becomes the norm.”

Finally, he sent a clear message to the city authorities:
“It’s time to wake up, remove the poor management, and bring in people who can breathe new life into this company. They have destroyed the former gas giant not only in Zagreb but also in Croatia.”
