Protest by GPZO Workers Due to Business Loss

Zagreb, June 13, 2024. – A protest was held by workers of the Zagreb City Gasworks – Supply (GPZO), attended by about a hundred employees. The reason for the gathering is the business loss after the company lost a public tender for the supply of Zagreb households.

Protesters’ Demands

The workers demanded from Mayor Tomislav Tomašević and President of the Management Board of Zagreb Holding Ivan Novaković the immediate replacement of the GPZO management and the appointment of a new one, composed of energy experts who will be able to respond to new challenges and ensure stable business operations for the company.

Messages from the Unions

Vlatko Kottnig, President of the Union of Gas Distribution and Gas Technology of Croatia (SDPPTH), and Tomislav Rajković, President of the Association of Workers’ Unions of Croatia (URSH), emphasized that GPZO needs a professional management that understands the energy business and can offer a competitive price to citizens.

They stressed that the current management has proven its incompetence and ineptitude towards the workers and the company. They also assured the citizens of Zagreb that there is no better company for supply than GPZO and urged them to continue cooperation with the company at the same or similar price offered by the competition.

Conclusion

Workers and union leaders stated that they will continue to fight for GPZO and its jobs, while simultaneously expecting responsibility and urgent reaction from the city authorities to the situation.
